At the time, I had what I felt were just a few photographs that I thought would be worthy of a book and I while I don't exactly have enough for a book right now, I definitely have more.<br /></p><p>I have learned a lot about creating and publishing your own book, since <a href="https://www.blurb.com/b/4322956-trout-dreams" target="_blank"><i>Trout Dreams</i></a><i>, </i>so I am confident that my next book will be better in terms of layout and design.</p><p>When I did <i>Trout Dreams </i>I would regularly post screenshots of the book as I figured out what fonts I wanted to use and page layout, I don't think that I'll do that this time, but I thought I would at least post a couple of screenshots to give you an idea of what the book will look like.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg6e1Z-JCHAgNc9zmH2q-z3TvDpe3rEOyi2UTojqpiXQTbgtqc6Nz5lxfi0_tFvzO2yzoq-22zVAFd-b6uBf1gT6wzuQISc7C083_of5cHIRWK_Kx9UdVSemCkPQbzKZ4palGKOf6lIA91gadC_QboIHEs0S6gNUKa-3kGQfIz0_nf5WUX8bKhiEx0olQ/s1777/Screenshot%202024-01-26%20174940.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="906" data-original-width="1777" height="326" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg6e1Z-JCHAgNc9zmH2q-z3TvDpe3rEOyi2UTojqpiXQTbgtqc6Nz5lxfi0_tFvzO2yzoq-22zVAFd-b6uBf1gT6wzuQISc7C083_of5cHIRWK_Kx9UdVSemCkPQbzKZ4palGKOf6lIA91gadC_QboIHEs0S6gNUKa-3kGQfIz0_nf5WUX8bKhiEx0olQ/w640-h326/Screenshot%202024-01-26%20174940.png" width="640" /></a></div><br /><p>On this format the book is a hardcover with a dust cover, the dark section on the right,which would be the back side of the front, I plan on having some sort of text an artist statement and probably a picture of me. Can you see me? I have titled it "Too Deluxe" and is 11"x14". <br /></p><p style="text-align: center;"> <img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhJe1wEd05Rc8o99WDXPkMJOxIwOMUJzy-U3IlO1uZqD4Gxk9JBBdC6JLdctGEK1Hec-uvA2uFZ6uLGnt_iopmvgfCPAr9HcNGN6dxqyPff7XJqt3sKmY2eOoQcnBX9NHxejQdS_SFgV8va8wsiI0pM1MmSqajFjzSzeXdeKYITt6lIRX_tbTa8zwg/w480-h640/344762779_1321650715364314_8763358568324273722_n.jpg" width="480" /> </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">The fishing photograph was in <a href="https://www.blurb.com/b/4322956" target="_blank">my book </a>and a favorite from that period, I titled it "Rod Holder" and is 8"x10". <br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"> </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhm0EQISOzObBpNlTtzl78WGu_QPHB_kZW75F39nerixnJyPz5_FEH66BGfwTAblbYD7JfOK66sijLK7YBCj47IrfYzwNNPuOdS9-qWrJyZtPRr1KNG8EqSlACHtoX96Oy5HxfwSTRYtLV1pknW3FvZ17HjhXjnuojZkayPfdYFU_Ee2gfm42_QhFk/s2048/345809697_1411753222906392_8434405925151331567_n.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhm0EQISOzObBpNlTtzl78WGu_QPHB_kZW75F39nerixnJyPz5_FEH66BGfwTAblbYD7JfOK66sijLK7YBCj47IrfYzwNNPuOdS9-qWrJyZtPRr1KNG8EqSlACHtoX96Oy5HxfwSTRYtLV1pknW3FvZ17HjhXjnuojZkayPfdYFU_Ee2gfm42_QhFk/w480-h640/345809697_1411753222906392_8434405925151331567_n.jpg" width="480" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Both prints were printed by me in the darkroom, on light sensitive, silver gelatin, photographic paper, in other words these are not digital prints. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">So here are the rules:</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"> <br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Make a comment (one comment per person) in the comments section below, let me know which photograph you are interested in, how long you have been following my photography, where you saw the post, or anything else you'd like to say about my photography (be constructive at the least, supportive at the most, flattery is great even, but won't get you anymore but one entry!). <br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"> </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">If you comment using the Anonymous,Open ID or Name/URL options,

Despite all of this, I have been doing my best to keep making new photographs that I have had on my Flickr stream, but I thought I'd post here as well. </p><p>This first one is a portrait that I did of a good friend/Brother, that goes by the name of "Tripod". He's a good guy, that has an interesting motorcycle story, I am grateful for his friendship and for the miles that we have ridden together so far.<br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh1O23QrxJt7c7_j1MlQA_aZbNke131wZ47uuEZMXyexNZ-5OTvESUSETwXkKwTJKnowJNjfixliGNbBB-2uT6aIEv_nFTuCrys-1VDE-Fp5x8q8cNFaJPyRnOKDisuD-09aYTh53c85zY/s1500/Tripod_1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1466" data-original-width="1500" height="625" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh1O23QrxJt7c7_j1MlQA_aZbNke131wZ47uuEZMXyexNZ-5OTvESUSETwXkKwTJKnowJNjfixliGNbBB-2uT6aIEv_nFTuCrys-1VDE-Fp5x8q8cNFaJPyRnOKDisuD-09aYTh53c85zY/w640-h625/Tripod_1.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><p></p><p>If you have followed my photography for a while, and I know that you have, you'll know that I also have a 6x12 Pan Holga camera, that I love to use. Recently though, through a post that a friend made on Facebook of a picture of an inflatable duck that was at a car wash, I was fortunate enough find it there and went to photograph it.</div><div><br /></div><div>I am not exactly trying to compare film and digital, because at this point, having the need to scan the film for this photograph, it's all digital anyway, but since I was able to make a photograph of the scene with both my Holga camera, using Fujichrome Provia 400 and the camera on my phone, using Pixlr to process the file, I thought I'd put them here together.</div><div><br /></div><div>The first photograph is the one I made with my Holga:</div><div><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgShsCbwg0vbbZ7eufBZ3bDrwF0ALXsqH7ZWxWOYfYaab4BSlgUVZR-HaDuTxdsl9xL-adh-AWJU_Ws8rGPeAB9_8J3pYuisMXVIYsjyy9aZl_8ju1evSix6iSzLVdzAEuy25hM86yx-k8/s1700/Quack+Duck.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1620" data-original-width="1700" height="610" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgShsCbwg0vbbZ7eufBZ3bDrwF0ALXsqH7ZWxWOYfYaab4BSlgUVZR-HaDuTxdsl9xL-adh-AWJU_Ws8rGPeAB9_8J3pYuisMXVIYsjyy9aZl_8ju1evSix6iSzLVdzAEuy25hM86yx-k8/w640-h610/Quack+Duck.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><div><br /></div><div>If you have been following my photography, you'll know that I prefer to have a boarder of some kind and in the case of my Holga photographs, the boarder looks something like this.</div><div><br /></div><div>The camera phone image on the other hand, looks like this:</div><div><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhmap3rceKUThpOjufpQmGbuJ6rqjGIFPfdsPZdbYnaoloHon9vmv8Mq2zJBs-WaHI5hi66lx_epeCalBKD6s8HCWtxXr7UzfaE7Gm3-6ZcDATQWFONlDGR5MfegLP_dns5AEQEAm6L0Xc/s1708/116156923_314839069706772_9192211436500471824_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1708" data-original-width="1708" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhmap3rceKUThpOjufpQmGbuJ6rqjGIFPfdsPZdbYnaoloHon9vmv8Mq2zJBs-WaHI5hi66lx_epeCalBKD6s8HCWtxXr7UzfaE7Gm3-6ZcDATQWFONlDGR5MfegLP_dns5AEQEAm6L0Xc/s640/116156923_314839069706772_9192211436500471824_n.jpg" /></a></div><div><br /></div><div>As I mentioned above, I use the Pixlr app, for my post processing and the camera on my phone shoots the RAW format, which is what I use for my more creative photographs. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Winter is the worst time for motorcycle riders, because you can't ride; so the other morning I woke needing to hop on my motorcycle, but I was unable to do so, because snow had fallen the night before. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Needless to say, I had a little pent up energy, that I was able to overcome, slightly anyway, through a creative type of outlet. So with a cup of coffee in my hand, I went to my computer, pulled up the <a href="https://www.blurb.com/bookwright" target="_blank">BookWright </a>software from <a href="http://www.blurb.com/" target="_blank">Blurb.com</a> and created what I am calling a very preliminary and potential cover for a photo book about my motorcycle photography, that I am thinking of calling, <i>Harleys and Holgas Forever, </i>after my Instagram handle. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi1w7miAURc3NCO_mVsl98r6LdfsD4U708JmUTyJolaD4lajfoj045B4Vh-RtrfQaly3SQv8qJTaed6TSvUg8Inf567sVv6xaoa-EdrHfZpbHVPpaTyTUcFmnftO4pk7PUKPCyuGN6UWJc/s1600/HHF+Book+Cover.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="679" data-original-width="842" height="516" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi1w7miAURc3NCO_mVsl98r6LdfsD4U708JmUTyJolaD4lajfoj045B4Vh-RtrfQaly3SQv8qJTaed6TSvUg8Inf567sVv6xaoa-EdrHfZpbHVPpaTyTUcFmnftO4pk7PUKPCyuGN6UWJc/s640/HHF+Book+Cover.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
If you are fan of my photography, and I know that there at least 10 of you out there, you may remember my first photo book, <a href="https://www.blurb.com/user/mtbbrian" target="_blank">Trout Dreams</a>; I know that there are at least 10 of you out there, because 14 copies of it were bought, and I bought four copies myself.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I learned a lot doing the first book and hope to make this better. It took me about six years to have enough photographs that I felt were worthy to be in the book and by the looks of my <a href="https://flickr.com/photos/29959477@N00/" target="_blank">Flickr photstream</a>, I posted my first motorcycle photographs in 2016, so it could be at least two years before I get to that point. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So here's to more photographs and to more riding of course. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
If you are in the greater Wasatch Front area, in Northern Utah, and want to be a part of the book or at least photograph you and your bike, look for me out on the open road, contact me through here, or on Instagram: <a href="https://www.instagram.com/harleys_and_holgas_forever/" target="_blank">Harleys_and_Holgas_Forever</a>. </div>

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhY4FITXaLR4LDKsx-g8TfNP3MfbThNfRXVPCaIrCnV2FvkLmpQ-CMnVudIp0eugUAhh_CV3iVXPcZAbuI9gZzDXBica9rqk-YkAi8PxV6psUPL51h5qNybxqB-6r0B4dKh6-kj7f1XU7Q/s1600/img107.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1561" data-original-width="1600" height="624" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhY4FITXaLR4LDKsx-g8TfNP3MfbThNfRXVPCaIrCnV2FvkLmpQ-CMnVudIp0eugUAhh_CV3iVXPcZAbuI9gZzDXBica9rqk-YkAi8PxV6psUPL51h5qNybxqB-6r0B4dKh6-kj7f1XU7Q/s640/img107.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
I usually like to get an over all portrait of a bike, but I think in this case the other two photographs that I made <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi8lqx1TP3JuEfMADMGnXnn9_SbfnQw2YKWMqPjTHeGVmTi_Dz0VnQHqsa4aX39-4Du0L8x0YHPfWRj3SoIwFsqzyRogqQmLb0YEn40ofbgLZXzbTh_xDo9eEeVGgDVq6GVxej3eUoeJ8s/s1600/img105.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1558" data-original-width="1600" height="623" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi8lqx1TP3JuEfMADMGnXnn9_SbfnQw2YKWMqPjTHeGVmTi_Dz0VnQHqsa4aX39-4Du0L8x0YHPfWRj3SoIwFsqzyRogqQmLb0YEn40ofbgLZXzbTh_xDo9eEeVGgDVq6GVxej3eUoeJ8s/s640/img105.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br />
I always like making a portrait of the rider and his or her bike, and I really think that this one turned out well. I'll say something like, "Give me your best, Yeah, I ride a Harley pose", which always tends to lighten the mood and enables me to get a good portrait.
<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhCR7eqOUu_57q_Whp17t3f1LoCkxe2mSyaqF2KKazyHeHN8hD1ty0CVd1h5JWvxWrSR8_27rQq7Go1Zv78l4dxPethvXMW6JDr2F-Mx1xS3ORddzq-4RquxwuCwG8L9-qWWefDGhU3B6w/s1600/img106.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1569" data-original-width="1600" height="626" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhCR7eqOUu_57q_Whp17t3f1LoCkxe2mSyaqF2KKazyHeHN8hD1ty0CVd1h5JWvxWrSR8_27rQq7Go1Zv78l4dxPethvXMW6JDr2F-Mx1xS3ORddzq-4RquxwuCwG8L9-qWWefDGhU3B6w/s640/img106.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
I like to get a detail photograph of a bike a lot too, and this left side of this Shovelhead, with it's "suicide shift" and skull picture on the tank did not disappoint.
<br />
<br />
It's coming up on the end of 2019, so this will probably be my last group of photographs that I will post for a while. I am not sure what 2020 will bring, but I will always bring my Holgas with me, and even if I don't make any photographs with my Holgas, I am sure that I will at least make some pictures that you will probably see on my Instagram account, <a href="https://www.instagram.com/harleys_and_holgas_forever">Harleys_and_Holgas_Forever</a>. So check me out there if you already don't. <br />
<br />
Here's to many more miles and smiles in the coming year and decade!
<br />
Let's Ride!

Being a Veteran, I am horribly concerned about this issue, so naturally I went and took a few friends, both Veteran and non-Veteran alike<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhPWqKpXzStOLQsoL7ZywJC9NnmcgCaYndLp0ZrC8f4B40r2Ok3O-SVojcBTIyHGT63AeGMn5Pfr8BjdWK4uj1m_lUCDgO9U77C1pb1PnSkKI5SB0yPXxxXaXzsapjS0YRDkpT0-57lkSo/s1600/img097.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1551" data-original-width="1600" height="620" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhPWqKpXzStOLQsoL7ZywJC9NnmcgCaYndLp0ZrC8f4B40r2Ok3O-SVojcBTIyHGT63AeGMn5Pfr8BjdWK4uj1m_lUCDgO9U77C1pb1PnSkKI5SB0yPXxxXaXzsapjS0YRDkpT0-57lkSo/s640/img097.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
The numbers vary over the past few years, but it is estimated that 20-22 of my fellow Veterans take their own lives each, which averages to be about one suicide every 65 minutes. I personally believe that this <a href="https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/opinion/op-eds/we-need-more-than-awareness-to-defeat-the-epidemic-of-veteran-suicides" target="_blank">epidemic </a>is preventable, by doing a very simple thing, something that we are trained to do and is a part of the culture of the military, and that is look out for one another. I realize that this isn't a be all solution, and I am not even sure that there is such a thing for this epidemic, but I know that it is something that can prevent someone from taking their life. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgxvjNOypH5N4D6Ac15rxWG0E0V_crz-FftNjISCGBxqWZf2hN-QInvA4mNUHYmavzYJHZ4mm0GXSOg5XIm2o5FohG8tgHK7SIkO93-dl5YjGsBGLYyPzhtoLXu1XujZCyjIHk7vEEpDgg/s1600/img094.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="719" data-original-width="1600" height="286" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgxvjNOypH5N4D6Ac15rxWG0E0V_crz-FftNjISCGBxqWZf2hN-QInvA4mNUHYmavzYJHZ4mm0GXSOg5XIm2o5FohG8tgHK7SIkO93-dl5YjGsBGLYyPzhtoLXu1XujZCyjIHk7vEEpDgg/s640/img094.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Even if you are not a Veteran, you can help with this epidemic, you can reach out to a Veteran that you may know, especially if you know that he or she is in crisis.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgdqb_EfV5vedCxxKAbVNuart_qkv44VyQUEG6i8zTwTey9Xhs_8bPz_DZsR7LNcHEPDVwC70WEYb8iWvHPnInlTMa7BM9x0YZRZRCDM1YAxIDo9PJ-udV66y_NwspGzM5jHSrfzdj21a4/s1600/img095.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1548" data-original-width="1600" height="618" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgdqb_EfV5vedCxxKAbVNuart_qkv44VyQUEG6i8zTwTey9Xhs_8bPz_DZsR7LNcHEPDVwC70WEYb8iWvHPnInlTMa7BM9x0YZRZRCDM1YAxIDo9PJ-udV66y_NwspGzM5jHSrfzdj21a4/s640/img095.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
As I have often said, I am grateful for our nation and the Veteran community, in particular Viet Nam Veterans, because there are many organizations that have been created by Viet Nam Veterans to help Veterans, in particular my generation to deal with all of the crazy stuff that Veterans deal with. I could easily name countless organizations like that help teach Veterans an activity or skill, but I will list the following:<br />
<a href="https://guitars4vets.org/" target="_blank">Project Healing Waters</a><br />
<a href="https://guitars4vets.org/" target="_blank">Guitars for Vets</a><br />
<a href="https://www.veteranscharityride.org/" target="_blank">Veterans Charity Ride</a><br />
<br />
There are also other organizations like <a href="https://veterans.utah.edu/" target="_blank">The National Center for Veterans Studies</a>, that are studying this epidemic and making a huge difference.<br />
<br />
If you are a Veteran and are in crisis, please call the <a href="https://www.mentalhealth.va.gov/suicide_prevention/veterans-crisis-line.asp" target="_blank">VA Veterans Crisis Line</a> at <b class="phone-number">1-800-273-8255</b> and <b>Press 1</b> to talk to someone, or if you prefer, send a text message to <b>838255</b> to connect with a VA responder, and they also offer a confidential online chat session at <a href="http://www.veteranscrisisline.net/ChatTermsOfService.aspx" target="_blank">VeteransCrisisLine.net/Chat</a>.<br />
<br />
You can also go to <a href="http://www.veteranscrisisline.net/GetHelp/ResourceLocator.aspx" target="_blank">a VA facility</a> near you, or even a medical facility of your choosing in your area.<br />
<br />
In closing, I want to you to recite in someway and remember the words of the Spartan Pledge,<br />
"I will not take my own life by my own hand until I talk to
my battle buddy first.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span><br />
<div class="MsoNormal">
My mission is to find a mission to help my warfighter
family."</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">

From a recent moto road trip that my wife and I took where we rode about 1200 miles in the Southern Utah area. This particular photograph was on the La Sal Mountain Road, a little side trip we took that day. The further along we got, the more technical it got, especially for a couple of cruisers, I am sure the couple of adventure bikers we saw that day were wondering what we were doing there. Ththe road was paved and in good shape the entire way, although there were several cut offs that diverted off into the Moab desert. The road peaks at a summit that is somewhere around 8000', if you follow me on Instagram <a href="https://www.instagram.com/harleys_and_holgas_forever/" target="_blank">@ harleys_and_holgas_forever, </a>you can see a picture I posted of my Harley in the view area parking lot with the Castle Valley in the background. </div>

Every now and again, I am randomly contacted or by someone I know to either publish a photograph or two or to work on a project together, which is what happened a few years ago from my friend Chadd Vanzanten. Like most of the projects I am contacted about, Chadd and I began talking about this long before bags (or shall I say backpacks) were packed, plans made, film was purchased, etc for a backpack trip that occurred in July of 2016.</div>

<br />
I remember seeing this bike in May I believe, at a local biker bar and it immediately caught my eye. I was able to talk to its owner and took a few photographs of it, but this is my favorite.<br />
Turns out the owner, goes by "Sarge" is an Army Veteran and we even worked in the same MOS during our respective time in the Army.<br />

<br />
One of the things I have done, that has introduced me to many new people and has provided an opportunity to continue serving my fellow Veterans and their families was join an organization called <a href="https://www.patriotguard.org/content.php" target="_blank">Patriot Guard Riders</a> or the PGR as we call it. What is the PGR you ask? <br />
<br />
The Patriot Guard Riders is a 100% Volunteer, Federally registered
501(c)3 non-profit organization which ensures dignity and respect at
memorial services honoring Fallen Military Heroes, First Responders and
honorably discharged Veterans.”<br />
<br />
I ride with the <a href="https://www.patriotguardridersofutah.org/" target="_blank">Utah Patriot Guard Riders</a> and through it I have met a lot of great people like my brother Mike here. <br />

<br />
Every year around this time, I would make a portrait or even just a snapshot of Mirinda. It's been six years since I last made any of photograph of her, which you can see in the aptly named <a href="http://mtbbrian.blogspot.com/search/label/Birthday%20project">label</a>.<br />
<br />
Some life changing events have happened since the last time I posted a picture of her, we became foster parents, adopted, divorced and she was diagnosed with cancer a little more than a year ago; the biggest change was her untimely death earlier this year as a result of her cancer.<br />
<br />
We didn't talk a lot about the what ifs and what not, but on one such occasion we both thought about me taking a portrait of her post chemo, when she was at her most hairless state. So one day last August, just after her doctors had declared her cancer in remission, I got the opportunity to sit with her to make that portrait of her. I won't go into the particulars of what happened in the months after I made this portrait, but needless to say, the cancer came back.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiTuAKXKPE_lBhY5Jg5U_NYtww2A8_YCWk0uik6N-uBHJyMdUmEmcsxV9xNK5WpfyjTMbZy3HIdbwgjrboSLePUkvKnCScUs4VBBau2vsI2aq4JD2CbhjosLB0elcM0qRjoKYa1NJeWiQo/s1600/Mirinda_Bald_1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="588" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiTuAKXKPE_lBhY5Jg5U_NYtww2A8_YCWk0uik6N-uBHJyMdUmEmcsxV9xNK5WpfyjTMbZy3HIdbwgjrboSLePUkvKnCScUs4VBBau2vsI2aq4JD2CbhjosLB0elcM0qRjoKYa1NJeWiQo/s640/Mirinda_Bald_1.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I have made a lot of portraits in my time, but none have ever been so raw or so intimate. Looking back on the time since I made this portrait of her and what I have learned since, I think that in this moment, she may have been looking forward with hope, but deep down I think she knew what was forthcoming. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Since her death, I was contacted by a woman who has survived breast cancer and is doing a documentary about breast cancer about having this portrait be a part of the film. Mirinda didn't have breast cancer, but the portrait will be part of a section of the film about hair loss. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I don't know much more about the film, but it is called <a href="http://www.lifeinterruptedfilm.com/" target="_blank">Life Interrupted: Telling Breast Cancer Stories</a>. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I am very honored to have this portrait be a part of this film, because it is a way for Mirinda to live on. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Happy birthday Mirinda, I and the rest of the village, that we jointly and individually have put together, got this and we will make sure that our daughter grows up knowing you and will grow up to be the best woman she can be.</div>

My photography tends to be personal and most of the people I photograph are people that I know and ride with in this case.<br />
<br />
I thought I'd make these "People I ride with" posts and photographs thematic too.<br />
<br />
So today's theme is "Beards". I have met a lot of bikers that have them and they all rock the beard.<br />

As I get more into motorcycle culture, I am learning a lot, meeting a lot people and riding to places in Utah (so far anyway), that I have never been to before. </div>

Recently, I went to a "Bike Night" event that took place in the Salt Lake City area at an "In N Out Burger" late in the evening, just to check it out mostly, but of course I took a camera a long, three actually.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
It was great watching all of the various bikes, people and groups coming and going. I talked to a lot of people that night and before I took off with a like minded group riding cruisers I took a few photographs.</div>

<br />
Until today, I'd say the thing I am most proud of when it comes to my photography was the article written about me and my photography in Winter 2011 issue of <a href="http://www.flyrodreel.com/" target="_blank"><i>Fly Rod & Reel, </i></a>I will always be indebted to its author, <a href="http://www.bobwhitestudio.com/" target="_blank">Bob White</a> (Thanks again Bob!).<br />
<br />
Today though, I have a new achievement to share, not only does it involve having some photographs in what I think is the most creative fly fishing magazine out there, <a href="http://www.theflyfishjournal.com/" target="_blank">The Flyfish Journal, </a>it also involves an essay that I wrote that accompanies the two photographs. The essay is basically about my fly fishing experience, that began while I was on active duty with the Army and touches upon an issue that is near and dear to me, Veteran suicide.<br />
<br />
A big shout out to the other writers, photographers, artists and the people that put that put the magazine together, especially the ones I know. Keep up the
great work! <br />
<br />
So go and buy a copy, preferably at a local fly fishing shop, my essay is in <i></i> volume seven, issue four and then reach out to a Veteran you may know and take him or her fishing.<br />
<br />
My essay is called, "Take a Veteran Fishing" and is on page 108. This is just the cover, and not my photograph, the cover photograph belongs to <a href="http://toshbrown.com/" target="_blank">Tosh Brown</a>, who is an excellent photographer. <br />
<br />
Thanks,<br />
<br />

I have always felt that way about my photography, and as I get older, as it were, I find that to be more and more true. If you have been following my photography over the past seven years or so, you know that when I started fly fishing, I naturally brought my Holgas with my when I went fishing.<br />
I am still fishing, but due to some changes in life, I found myself wanting to learn to ride a motorcycle, so I came upon a wonderful opportunity to learn through a local Harley-Davidson dealer (THANK YOU HARLEY-DAVIDSON!). I have since gotten my motorcycle endorsement and have bought a motorcycle of my own, a Harley-Davidson. In my limited riding experience I have met a lot of new people, gotten better acquainted with old friends and have seen places in Utah that I have seen until now.<br />
It's been nearly a year since I posted anything here, but it doesn't mean I have done any photography at all, I just haven't done anything I felt was worth putting up here, until today.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiV78HjGxJ2lsNFJsDjxntU7ul6dRy5R7GfPzaONVYxkl03I1O4DjglztsbjwMwoLM5Y0VgYoo9d35-Qq6WNHVLKc_z5tA0IWXcxoqJwI0oj9VTfnY7kUsVP_uk4bG6zAfO2cbuuOZlFZI/s1600/MotoCouple_Flag2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="628" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiV78HjGxJ2lsNFJsDjxntU7ul6dRy5R7GfPzaONVYxkl03I1O4DjglztsbjwMwoLM5Y0VgYoo9d35-Qq6WNHVLKc_z5tA0IWXcxoqJwI0oj9VTfnY7kUsVP_uk4bG6zAfO2cbuuOZlFZI/s640/MotoCouple_Flag2.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
I am not quite sure how I want to treat motorcycles as far a subject goes, I haven't had any dreams about riding motorcycles like I have had with mountain biking and fishing, so I am still experimenting. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
I haven't done any double exposures yet, but since I haven't had any dreams about motorcycles, I am not sure that I will, but I do like the results I have gotten so far with the "Holgaramas" I have done.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEggKbUL4MDdHZa94yb_lSapt-5MUDgsZ4r8mOcedbcyOGlz94QCA5epsBm08V68VSydE5WRSFFq_B_VbomI0lvIbxStxaMScFlXrKREFXm_ahAwbdqfDey8TfEIlNUxhsTdY9K6NqhLrXQ/s1600/Moto_Rama.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="364" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEggKbUL4MDdHZa94yb_lSapt-5MUDgsZ4r8mOcedbcyOGlz94QCA5epsBm08V68VSydE5WRSFFq_B_VbomI0lvIbxStxaMScFlXrKREFXm_ahAwbdqfDey8TfEIlNUxhsTdY9K6NqhLrXQ/s640/Moto_Rama.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
I think there is something about a motorcycle's cockpit, I like the lines and all of the chrome on the tank, and I think that each cockpit is as unique as the owner, considering all of the things you can do the cockpit area on a motorcycle.<br />

I haven't stopped fishing or photographing it, I just have a new subject to photograph as I travel around the sun..<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I am a fan of the internet and social media and aside from learning new things when I go to events like the workshop that <a href="http://tenkaraguides.com/" target="_blank">Tenkara Guides LLC</a> put on recently I get to meet people that I know through these various forums and websites. This particular particular workshop was really like a "Who's Who in Tenkara Fishing in The USA" because there were a lot of influential and well known tenkara anglers that I know had only known through various websites until this workshop. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
First up, the<a href="http://www.badgertenkara.com/" target="_blank"> Tenkara Badger</a> himself, all the way Wisconsin, he has some great rods that I hope to cast here before the summer is out. He caught a great brown trout a few moments later, I might add!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiNKcNsCVTNhgIrlhjqLLpjYm6LdSxEOFhUDPo63sO363bQd6TRa8no0GBoNT0zNgdKctQl8K__uqVAK0q4UnoIIkfRzgxMw0V2WqRBJ_Nm79u5WNMelcWxFJhWsYCtyLNCjtCwSMcWl38/s1600/Oni6.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="618" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiNKcNsCVTNhgIrlhjqLLpjYm6LdSxEOFhUDPo63sO363bQd6TRa8no0GBoNT0zNgdKctQl8K__uqVAK0q4UnoIIkfRzgxMw0V2WqRBJ_Nm79u5WNMelcWxFJhWsYCtyLNCjtCwSMcWl38/s640/Oni6.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
Then there was Tom from <a href="http://tetontenkara.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Teton Tenkara</a>, who is a very knowledgeable tenkara angler whose blog I checkout often. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
I also met again <a href="http://dragontailtenkara.com/" target="_blank">DragonTail Tenkara </a>as he was fishing this great spot. Make sure and check him out, he has a great selection of tenkara rods, one of which the ShadowFire, I demoed earlier this year and it's a great rod.<br />

<br />
I met some new tenkara bums at the workshop, as they fished both days, on this lovely stream in eastern Utah..<br />
<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
And on the Middle Provo.. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Over the past few years there have been tenkara gatherings started across the globe and the United States, such as the <a href="http://www.appalachiantenkara.com/" target="_blank">Appalachian Tenkara Jam</a>, held in Maryland. There is also the <a href="http://www.mwtenkarafest.com/" target="_blank">Midwest Tenkara Fest </a>held in Wisconsin. Of course there's the one that started it all, <a href="http://www.tenkarausa.com/" target="_blank">Tenkara USA</a>'s Tenkara Summit, that has been held in a few different locations including Utah in 2012. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
As things in my life change, I intend to get to these events and photograph them too and do a book about Tenkara in the USA.</div>

<br />
I don't always know what I will post here, most of the time the photographs I post here are the ones that I truly feel are the strongest photographs from a particular roll or batch of rolls; other times the photographs I post here are the ones that I get the most comments or "Favorites" or views from <a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/29959477@N00/" target="_blank">my Flickr stream. </a> <br />
At this time, this photograph has been viewed 191 times and has been marked as a "Favorite" by five of my "Followers" on Flickr, which is a lot more than any of the others I have recently posted. <br />
<br />
That being said, and because I haven't had a lot of photographic opportunities so far this year and because all of the other photographs I plan on posting about the workshop are all in black and white, I thought I'd post this one. <br />

<br />
I have three more rolls that I need to have processed before I can make my post about the workshop, that will have to wait a few weeks. If anyone out there would be interested in being a patron, please contact me!<br />

<br />
That being said, I like shooting color film, Fujichrome Velvia 100 in this case, especially when it comes to photographs of fish, like this <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bonneville_cutthroat_trout" target="_blank">Bonneville Cutthroat</a> for example.<br />
<br />
I have caught a few Bonneville Cutties in my time, but none as beautiful as this one, which was on a tiny tributary in eastern Utah, during a tenkara workshop put on by <a href="http://tenkaraguides.com/" target="_blank">Tenkara Guides LLC</a>. <br />
<br />
I have more from the two days I was there at the unique and amazing workshop they put on, but I love this photograph so much and it's different from what I normally shoot, that I thought I'd put this one out now..<br />
